Ziaire Williams: Bronny James, Stats, Contract and Playing Tonight

Ziaire Williams is entering the 2026-27 NBA season with a new opportunity in Los Angeles. The former lottery pick has joined the Los Angeles Lakers and is expected to compete for an important role on the wing.

Williams is also familiar with Bronny James. The two players attended Sierra Canyon High School together before taking different paths to the NBA. Now, they are teammates in Los Angeles, adding another interesting storyline to Williams’ move to the Lakers.

Ziaire Williams and Bronny James

Ziaire Williams and Bronny James have a connection that goes back to their high school days. Both played at Sierra Canyon, one of the most prominent high school basketball programs in the United States.

Williams arrived at Sierra Canyon before becoming a first-round NBA selection, while James later became one of the school’s most recognizable basketball players.

Their paths have now crossed again with the Lakers. Bronny said having a familiar face around Williams is a positive thing and indicated that he is available to help his former high school teammate adjust to Los Angeles.

The reunion is particularly notable because Williams has already spent five seasons in the NBA. He brings considerably more professional experience to the Lakers, while James is still developing his game after entering the league in 2024.

Ziaire Williams Stats

Williams had one of the most productive seasons of his NBA career in 2025-26 with the Brooklyn Nets.

According to NBA.com, he averaged:

He appeared in 56 games and started 13 of them. Williams shot 42.5% from the field and 34.3% from three-point range.

His scoring average represented a career high, making the 2026 offseason an important point in his development.

Williams also provides defensive versatility. His size, athleticism and ability to defend on the wing make him useful in a Lakers lineup that is looking to become more aggressive defensively.

Ziaire Williams Contract

Williams signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Lakers during the 2026 offseason.

The deal came after Brooklyn declined its $6.25 million team option, making Williams an unrestricted free agent. Los Angeles then moved quickly to add him to its wing rotation.

The contract gives Williams an opportunity to establish himself with his hometown team while providing the Lakers with a relatively low-cost veteran wing.

His arrival also gives the Lakers another athletic option alongside players such as Luka Dončić, Matisse Thybulle and Quentin Grimes.

Is Ziaire Williams Playing Tonight?

Yes, Ziaire Williams is expected to play for the Lakers tonight against the Golden State Warriors in the preseason.

Los Angeles is scheduled to face Golden State on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Chase Center. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time and is listed as an NBA preseason matchup.

Williams is coming off the Lakers’ preseason opener against Sacramento, where he made an impressive impact.

He was part of the Lakers’ starting group in that game and helped set the tone defensively. The Los Angeles Times reported that Williams scored 13 points while going 3-for-3 from three-point range, along with recording a steal.

The Lakers then travel to Golden State for the second game of their preseason schedule.

Ziaire Williams’ Role With the Lakers

Williams could have an opportunity to earn a significant role in Los Angeles.

The Lakers are looking for athletic wings who can defend multiple positions, pressure the ball and provide spacing around Dončić. Williams fits several of those requirements.

His competition for playing time will be important. The Lakers have several players capable of playing on the wing, so Williams will need to remain consistent on both ends of the court.

His shooting will also be closely watched. Williams shot 34.3% from three last season, but his strong performance in the preseason opener showed why the Lakers believe he can provide useful perimeter scoring.

Why the Bronny James Connection Matters

The Bronny James connection adds another layer to Williams’ Lakers story.

Because the two players already know each other from Sierra Canyon, Williams does not have to enter the Lakers environment without a familiar teammate. Bronny has also spent time around the organization and can provide insight into the team and its expectations.

For Williams, however, the opportunity is about more than his relationship with James.

He is a former No. 10 overall pick who is entering his sixth NBA season. A strong campaign in Los Angeles could help him establish a more consistent role after spending his first five seasons with Memphis and Brooklyn.

Ziaire Williams Career

The Memphis Grizzlies selected Williams with the 10th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

He played his college basketball at Stanford before entering the NBA. Williams spent his first several seasons with Memphis before joining Brooklyn.

His 2025-26 season with the Nets was statistically encouraging. He averaged 10.2 points per game while also producing 2.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.4 steals per game, according to available season statistics.

The Lakers are hoping that improvement can continue.

Ziaire Williams Height and Position

Williams is listed at 6-foot-9 and plays primarily as a forward/wing.

His size gives him the ability to defend larger perimeter players, while his athleticism allows him to operate in transition.

For Los Angeles, that combination could become particularly valuable alongside Dončić, who can create scoring opportunities for athletic teammates.

Ziaire Williams vs. Bronny James

Williams and Bronny James have very different NBA profiles.

Williams was a lottery pick in 2021 and has already played five NBA seasons. James entered the league as the No. 55 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and is still working to establish a regular rotation role.

That makes their reunion interesting from a basketball perspective. Williams brings experience and size, while James continues to develop as a young guard.

They can now help each other as teammates, despite arriving at different stages of their NBA careers.

What to Watch From Ziaire Williams

There are several things to watch as Williams begins his Lakers tenure:

• Three-point shooting: Consistency from outside could increase his playing time.
• Defense: His length and athleticism fit the Lakers’ defensive plans.
• Starting competition: Williams is competing for a larger role on the wing.
• Chemistry with Bronny James: Their Sierra Canyon connection gives them an established relationship.
• Fit with Luka Dončić: Playing effectively without the ball will be important alongside the Lakers’ primary creator.

Final Take

Ziaire Williams enters the 2026-27 season with a significant opportunity in Los Angeles. His one-year, $3 million Lakers contract gives him a fresh start after a career-best scoring season in Brooklyn.

His reunion with Bronny James makes the move even more interesting because the two already played together at Sierra Canyon. However, Williams’ biggest opportunity is on the court, where his shooting, size and defensive ability could earn him a meaningful role.

With the Lakers facing the Warriors in preseason tonight, Williams is expected to be part of the action as Los Angeles continues evaluating its new-look roster.
