MLB Network’s John Heyman says Noelia recently broke her ankle and was awaiting surgery when she died. “My brother, I’m sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my prayers,” Marte’s longtime teammate with the Pirates Andrew McCutchen wrote in response to Marte’s Instagram post.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Noelia Marte,” D-Bax said in a statement. “Starling and his family are part of the D-Bax family and we will do everything we can to support him and his children during this incredibly difficult time.”

The Pirates also issued a statement:

“The entire Pirate family extends their deepest condolences to Starling Marte and family during this terrible time. Our hearts are truly saddened by this news.”

Marte, 31, was sold to the D-Backs in January after spending the first eight seasons with the Pirates. He and Noelia had two children together: a son, Starling Jr., and a daughter, Tiana.

On January 27, 2020, Marte was sent to the Diamondbacks for two prospects. The headliner was Livar Peguero. He was accompanied by Brennan Malone. Although I was originally skeptical about this move, I think it is one of the best trades the Pittsburgh Pirates have made as a franchise in a long time.

What happened to Starling Martes wife?
In May, Marte’s wife died of a heart attack. Marte said he broke his ankle and suffered a heart attack while awaiting surgery. His first thought after his death was that he wanted to retire and no longer play baseball.

What did the pirates trade?
The Pirates made the playoffs in 2013, ’14 and ’15. Since then, he has traded Gerrit Cole, Andrew McCutchen, Starling Marte, Charlie Morton, Tyler Glasnow, Neil Walker, Mark Melanchon, Francisco Liriano, Daniel Hudson, Josh Bell, Joe Musgrove and Jameson Tallon.

Marte is the only active player to have scored more than 125 home runs and 275 steals in his career. There are only three other active players to have more than 125 home runs and 200 steals – Mike Trout (310, 203), Jose Altuve (164, 261) and Brett Gardner (139, 274).

Question Mark
Marte was one of the leading defensive left fielders in baseball for the Pirates from 2013-16, winning back-to-back Gold Glove Awards in ’15 and ’16. In those two seasons, his 39 defensive runs were easily saved, leading all MLB left fielders—Christian Yelich and Gardner finished second with 14. But Marte’s defensive performance hasn’t been as great since moving to the center over the past few seasons. Will the team signing with next keep him there or take him back to the left?

King of theft base.. kind
Marte stole more bases during the 2021 regular season by swiping 47 bags than any other MLB player. But he was not the stolen-base champion in either league – since he was traded from Miami to Oakland, Marte’s stolen-base division between the National League and the American League was 22 (NL) and 25 (AL). Neither of those figures led the respective leagues in their own right. Nevertheless, Marte became the first player in AL/NL history to finish in the top 10 in each league in a single season.

The New York Mets agreed a four-year, $78 million contract with free agent outfielder Starling Marte late Friday, Jon Hemman reports.

Marley is coming into an exceptional 2021 season for the Marlins and A in which he batted .310/.383/.457 (132 ops), with 12 home runs and 47 stolen bases in 120 games. Coming off season, our R.J. Anderson replaced Marte as the number 10 free agent of the 2021–22 class.

The Marlins were on the starling marte until the centerfielder signed a four-year, $78MM deal to join the Mets, per MLB Network’s John Heyman (via Twitter). According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald (via Twitter), the Marlins made a “strong” offer, but did not match the financial commitment of the Mets. The Marlins weren’t the only team spoken to by the Mets, who flexed their financial strength to ink not only Marte, but Mark Canha and Eduardo Escobar, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post (via Twitter).

Centerfield is one of the Marlins’ biggest needs, although they may need to get creative now that Marte is off board. Utility gem Chris Taylor is the only motivational option on the free agent board with significant experience Manning Center. The rest of the field includes veteran names that are more likely to be seen as a backup. The group includes Brett Gardner, Jock Pedersen, Billy Hamilton, Ander Insert, Odubel Herrera, Jake Marisnick, Brian Goodwin and a few others.

Marte grew up on the outskirts of the Dominican Republic’s capital, Santo Domingo.[1] He was looked after by his grandmother after his mother’s death when he was nine.[2]

personal life
Marte has three children, sons Starling Jr. and Semmerling, and daughter Tiana, with his late wife Noelia Brazoban. In May 2020, Brazoban suffered a heart attack and died in hospital awaiting surgery for a broken ankle.[35
