Named Detmers in Louisville. As a true freshman for the Louisville Cardinals, Detmers led 4-2 with a 4.85 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 55 2⁄3 innings. [8] He spent the following summer playing for the Brewster Whitecaps of the Cape Cod Baseball League, where he focused on fine-tuning his mechanics, and was named East Division MVP in the league’s All-Star Game. [9] [10] [11] Detmers was named the Cardinals’ Friday Night Starter to mark his sophomore year. [12] He finished the season with a 2.78 ERA and 167 strikeouts in 113 1/3 innings, tying the school record for wins in one season with four losses to 13 and was named Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Pitcher of the Year. Named the First Team All-ACC, is an All-American first team by the American Baseball Coaches Association and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.[13][14][15] In 2019, he was named to the United States Collegiate national team. was chosen. Detmers entered the watch list for the Golden Spikes Award in his junior season and as a top prospect for the 2020 Major League Baseball Draft. [17] Detmers went 4–0 with a 1.23 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 22 innings, before the season was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.

Scouting report

Reid Detmers: College| Scouting report| Velocity| Gamelog

For the 2021 season, Detmars posted a 3.19 ERA between AA and AAA in 62 innings, with 15.7 K/9, 2.8 BB/9, 1.145 WHIP and 1.5 HR/9. He managed 20.2 innings in Los Angeles, good for a 7.40 ERA, 8.3 K/9, 4.8 BB/9, and 1.790 WHIP.

Detmers has made it to number 23 on MLB Pipeline’s top 100 prospect list, though I’m not entirely sure it’s up-to-date for the 2022 list. The write-up still pretty much specifically mentions the draft and alternate camp, with no mention of the actual 2021 season. Maybe the ones with the MLB pipeline are closed as well.

Velocity

It struck Michael Wurtz earlier this season that small moments on the field and in the clubhouse convinced the Angels’ Double-A pitching coach that the team’s top pitching prospect had something special.

When Reid Detters arrived at Rocket City as a pro for the first time on Wurtz’s staff—a long, quiet left-hander drafted 10th overall by the Angels last year—Wurtz recognized the pitcher’s potential, but did not know it. Whether it would show up immediately or not.

The then 21-year-old hadn’t entered an actual game in over a year. Wurtz had worked with Detmars in the instructional league, yet knew the grind of a minor-league campaign was another challenge entirely.

But over a period of three months, each little doubt began to fade.

Detmers had a 3.50 ERA and averaged nearly two strikeouts in an innings in 12 starts at Double-A. He showed increased speed and better feel for his broken pitches. And he impressed in other ways too, checking every box the club had for his development.

Gamelog

It takes a lot to take the Los Angeles Angels’ spotlight away from Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout. You might even say it’s something like a change – Pitch Reid Daters, a rookie left-hander, threw such a great no-hitting Tampa Bay Rays at Angel Stadium on Tuesday night.

Detmers, 22, made only the 11th start of his career, recording the latest must-see moment in the Angels season, which is gathering momentum. He dismissed only two batsmen in a 12–0 victory in which Trout scored two home runs and right-handed batsman Anthony Rendon blew a homer from the left.
