Pete Carroll Interview: Final| After Game| Last

After spending most of the past five decades on the football field, former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll appears to be heading back into the classroom — to teach.

Carroll revealed during an interview Tuesday afternoon on Sports Radio 93.3 KJR that he hopes to teach a class at USC — where he was the head football coach from 2001-09 — sometime this spring.

“Oh yes, it’s coming,” he said during an interview with Dave “Softy” Mahler and former Seahawks receiver Doug Baldwin, who played for Carroll in Seattle from 2011-18 and was a co-host on the radio that day. “And I’m really looking forward to it.”

But what he indicated may no longer be in his future is coaching.

Carroll, who will turn 73 on September 15, has coached every season at either the college or NFL level since 1973.

But he won’t be on the sidelines this season and said he’s not sure he will be again.

Pete Carroll isn’t sure if he’ll return to coaching. For now, he is returning to USC.

The former Seattle Seahawks and Trojans coach told sports radio 93.3 KJR-FM on Tuesday that he will begin teaching a class at USC this spring, though he did not provide any specifics beyond that.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Carroll said. “It will be a really exciting endeavor when it is finalized.”

Carroll’s radio appearance marked his first comments in local media since his farewell news conference at Seahawks headquarters in January, when team owner Jody Allen announced he was transitioning to an advisory role with the organization. A source told ESPN that Carroll has been an advisor to the Seahawks only nominally, and told the radio station that he is keeping his distance from the team.

However, Carroll said he would give some advice to “some other clubs”. He didn’t say which ones, but made it clear they were not football teams. Another recent project included a trip to a US military base in Kuwait for a basketball tournament with US troops. He said that experience reminded him that he had to continue giving back.

I decided to make a video on this instead of an article because frankly, one listen was enough and writing it down later could get me kicked out of the national championship game. Pete Carroll used his 710 Seattle Sports interview on Monday to tell everyone – among other things – that this team is closer to the Super Bowl than last year.

The truth is that they are no closer to the Super Bowl. His record is exactly the same as a year ago. They were dependent on the Packers to lose a game to miss the playoffs, as they had been the previous season. Despite making it a priority over the last 12 months, their run defense is statistically worse than in 2022 (Carroll has now offered the all-too-common refrain that they ‘just need to fix it’, what a difference the next 12 months will make. Will happen, asking a follow up question) Couldn’t they already get closer to fixing the problem.
