J.J. McCarthy has quickly become one of the most intriguing names in the latest NFL trade rumors after the Minnesota Vikings demoted the former first-round pick to third-string quarterback ahead of Week 1.
McCarthy, selected No. 10 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, was expected to become Minnesota’s long-term answer at quarterback. Instead, head coach Kevin O’Connell named Kyler Murray the starter and Carson Wentz the backup, leaving McCarthy as QB3.
That unexpected development has naturally fueled speculation about whether the Vikings could eventually explore a J.J. McCarthy trade.
Seahawks Could Be a Potential J.J. McCarthy Trade Destination
The Seattle Seahawks have emerged as an interesting potential landing spot for McCarthy because of an injury situation involving former Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold.
Darnold left Seattle’s season opener against the New England Patriots with a hip injury after appearing on the opening drive. Seattle ultimately relied on Drew Lock and defeated New England 13-10.
While early indications suggested Darnold avoided a fractured hip, the Seahawks were expected to conduct further testing. If the injury sidelines him for multiple weeks, Seattle could potentially consider adding another quarterback.
