The Tennessee Titans have suffered a major blow to their defensive depth after Jaylen Harrell suffered a torn ACL during the team’s preseason opener against the San Francisco 49ers.
Titans head coach Robert Saleh confirmed Saturday that Harrell will miss the entire 2026 NFL season. The injury occurred during Tennessee’s 19-13 preseason victory over San Francisco on Thursday.
Harrell recorded two tackles before leaving the game after playing 15 defensive snaps. The injury has now ended what was expected to be an important developmental season for the third-year defender.

Harrell entered the 2026 season looking to build on the progress he made during his second NFL campaign.
After a relatively quiet rookie season, the former Michigan standout earned a larger role with the Titans in 2025. He appeared in all 17 games, including two starts, and finished with 25 tackles, 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
Harrell also played approximately 34% of Tennessee’s defensive snaps, establishing himself as a useful part of the team’s pass-rushing rotation.

Rookie tight end Jaren Kanak also exited the game after playing only one offensive snap. The team later confirmed that Kanak suffered a torn pectoral muscle and would miss the season.
The injuries leave Tennessee with less depth at both edge rusher and tight end heading into the regular season.
Kanak had been competing for a role in a crowded tight end room that included Joel Wilson, David Martin-Robinson, Kylen Granson, Daniel Bellinger and Gunnar Helm.

Tennessee will now have to determine how it replaces Harrell’s snaps and production.
The Titans added players including Jacob Martin, Jermaine Johnson, Malik Herring and Truman Jones during the offseason, giving the team several options along the defensive front.
However, losing a young defender who recorded 4.5 sacks last season reduces the depth available for the pass rush.
