Former NFL reporter Dianna Russini has been found to have violated The Athletic’s editorial standards following a review of her work and her relationship with New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel.
The Athletic conducted the review after Russini resigned from the organization in April. While the investigation did not determine the exact nature of the relationship between Russini and Vrabel, the company concluded that publicly released photographs were sufficient to establish a violation of its policy.

Mike Semel, The Athletic’s editorial director for standards and quality, conducted an extensive review of Russini’s journalism. The examination covered 903 written stories, 204 podcast episodes and 77 videos.
The review found that most of Russini’s work was unrelated to Vrabel. It also determined that the majority of stories mentioning the Patriots coach did not raise concerns.
However, four pieces were found not to have met The Athletic’s standards. Editor’s notes were subsequently added to four items, including one written story and three videos.
