Dave Bautista is stepping up his training as he prepares to portray Kratos in Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming God of War series, and his latest update suggests the actor is fully committed to the physically demanding role.
Bautista recently shared a video from the gym showing his progress after three weeks of weight training. The former WWE star said he still has two more months to reach the physical condition he wants for Kratos, but his transformation is already drawing attention from fans.
Dave Bautista Begins Kratos Body Transformation
Bautista revealed that he is three weeks into his new weight-training program as he works toward becoming the iconic God of War character.
The actor captioned his workout update with a confident message about having two more months to reach his target physique. He also gave a Kratos-style roar in the video, offering fans a glimpse of the intensity he is bringing to the preparation.
The role requires Bautista to embody one of gaming’s most recognizable characters, and his long history as a professional wrestler gives him a strong foundation for the physical demands involved.
Dave Bautista Takes Over the Role of Kratos
Bautista was confirmed as the new Kratos on Aug. 20, replacing Ryan Hurst in the upcoming adaptation.
Hurst had originally been cast as Kratos and had reportedly added significant muscle for the role. However, he suffered a torn biceps during production and required surgery. His recovery was expected to extend beyond the show’s shooting schedule, leading to the recasting.
Because filming had already begun in Vancouver, scenes featuring Hurst will need to be filmed again with Bautista.
The God of War series has received a two-season order, with the seasons expected to be filmed back-to-back.
What the ‘God of War’ Series Is About
The Amazon series is based on the two most recent God of War games and will focus on Kratos and his son, Atreus.
The story follows the pair as they travel to spread the ashes of Faye, Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother. Along the journey, Kratos attempts to guide his son toward becoming a better god, while Atreus challenges his father to become a better human.
Callum Vinson is set to play Atreus, joining Bautista in the central father-and-son story.
Why Dave Bautista Fits Kratos
Bautista’s background makes him a natural choice for a character as physically imposing as Kratos. Before building a successful Hollywood career, he became one of WWE’s biggest stars and later transitioned into acting.
He became especially recognizable to mainstream audiences as Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers films.
His combination of wrestling experience, action-film work and imposing physical presence gives him plenty of experience playing larger-than-life characters. Now, his latest training suggests he is taking the Kratos transformation seriously.
When Will Fans See Dave Bautista as Kratos?
The God of War series is being developed for Amazon Prime Video, but the production has undergone a significant change following Hurst’s injury and the decision to recast the lead.
For now, Bautista is focused on getting his physique where he believes it needs to be. With two more months of training remaining according to his latest update, fans will likely be watching closely to see how much further his Kratos transformation goes.
The actor’s latest gym video makes one thing clear: Dave Bautista is already preparing to bring the strength and intensity associated with Kratos to the screen.
