Jeff Sims (born January 1, 2002) is an American football player. He plays college football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He previously played for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

Sims joins the Nebraska program after spending the previous three seasons at Georgia Tech. The 6-4, 220-pound Sims started 23 games for the Yellow Jackets over the past three seasons, amassing over 5,500 yards of total offense. In 2022, Sims started seven games before being sidelined with injury.

Turnovers

Sims is a fourth-year quarterback who transferred to Nebraska after three years with Georgia Tech. Between 25 games with the Yellow Jackets and parts of two games with the Cornhuskers, Sims has now been responsible for 37 turnovers.

Injury

Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims went down with a left foot injury in the fourth quarter against Colorado. Trailing 29–7, Sims rolled to his right and was chased and hit as he threw the football. After the play he came up limping. It appeared that Sims tried to run off it, but immediately dropped back down to two knees.

At the time, Sims was nine of 15 passing for 106 yards, one interception, two fumbles, 10 carries, 67 yards and one rushing touchdown.

Fox sideline reporter Jenny Taft said it was an ankle injury for Sims as he was taping on the sideline. Sims got up from the bench and walked around and told Taft he was getting ready to return to the game.

When Sims was out, Heinrich Harburg stepped in at quarterback and threw an incomplete pass. Soon after, third-string quarterback Chubba Purdy came in and also threw an incomplete pass.

On the same drive, Harburg recovered on fourth down but was hit while throwing and the Huskers turned it over on downs.

School

Sims joins the Nebraska program after spending the previous three seasons at Georgia Tech. The 6-4, 220-pound Sims started 23 games for the Yellow Jackets over the past three seasons, amassing over 5,500 yards of total offense.

In 2022, Sims started seven games before being sidelined with injury. He threw for 1,115 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing for 288 yards and one touchdown. His top game came against Duke, when he threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 95 yards to lead Georgia Tech to a 23–20 victory.

Sims played in seven games with six starts in 2021, passing for 1,468 yards and 12 touchdowns, while rushing for 372 yards and four touchdowns. Sims highlighted his season by coming off the bench against North Carolina with 240 yards and four touchdowns to lead Tech to a 45–22 win over the 20th-ranked Tar Heels. He threw for a career-high 359 yards against eventual ACC champion Pitt, the most by a Tech quarterback in 20 years. He added a 297-yard passing effort with three touchdowns at Duke a week later. Sims had his second 300-yard passing game of the season against Virginia with 300 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 65 yards in the game. He was named to the ACC All-Academic Team for his work in the classroom.
