“I haven’t seen anyone like Zion Williamson, who’s a lefty and can dunk like that with her right”: When Kevin Durant argued he believed the then-Duke star was a genius of a generation
Back in 2018, Kevin Durant recounted how then-Duke star Zion Williamson was “a once-in-a-generation athlete”.
Back in 2019, Zion Williamson was one of the most anticipated prospects to enter the league since LeBron James in 2003. And it’s safe to say that Zion has lived up to all the real expectations set for him, or some might even argue. Despite playing only 85 so far, Williamson has already established himself as one of the best players in the league.
While healthy, the 21-year-old is one of the most influential players in paint. With a career average of 25.7 points, 7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, Williamson has proved all his doubts wrong.
Height and weight
He grew from 5 feet 9 inches (1.75 m) to 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 m). Until his first season in the summer, Williamson practiced in the school gym and developed his ability to dive. At the time, he also competed for the South Carolina Hornets AAU team, where he was teammate with Ja Morante. As a freshman, Williamson averaged 24.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 3.3 steals and 3.0 blocks, earning All-State and All-Region honors. He also led Spartanburg Day to a South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) state championship game appearance. In March 2015, Williamson competed in the SCISA North–South All-Star Game in Sumter, South Carolina. By his second year in high school, he stood at 6 feet 6 inches (1.98 m). In his second season, Williamson averaged 28.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.9 blocks, and 2.7 steals per game and was named SCISA Region I-2A Player of the Year. He led the Griffins to their first SCISA Region I-2A title in program history. In June 2016, Williamson featured in the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Top 100 camp and was its leading scorer. In August, he won the Under Armor Elite 24 Showcase Dunk Contest in New York City.

The New Orleans Pelicans had a dream start to their 2022-2023 campaign. The Brooklyn Nets’ All-Star trio of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons were washed out by Willie Green’s boys in a massive 130-108 win at Barclays Center.
NOLA’s all-star trio – Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and CJ McCallum – played together for the first time. They were on the floor for more than 20 minutes and were completely in sync. CJ and BI combined for a total of 49 points, recording 17 field goals.
