The 2022 FIFA World Cup (Arabic  2022, romanized: Kaʾsu al-ālami 2022; Gulf Arabic romanized: kasu al-alami 2022) is the 22nd race of the FIFA World Cup competition, FIFA. The quadrennial international men’s football championship was contested by the national teams of FIFA’s member associations. It is scheduled to take place in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December 2022. It will be the first World Cup to be held in the Arab world,  and the second World Cup to be held entirely in Asia after 2002. The tournament was held in South Korea and Japan.  In addition, the tournament will be the last to feature 32 teams, an increase of 48 teams scheduled for the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Due to Qatar’s scorching heat, this World Cup will be held from late November to mid-December, making it the first tournament not to be held in May, June or July; It is to be played in a short time frame of around 28 days.

The 2022 World Cup is taking place in Qatar in the winter months instead of the usual summer due to the heat.

The tournament will begin on Monday 21 November at Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor with a match involving the host nation.

The final will be played at Lusail Stadium in Doha on Sunday 18 December, a week before Christmas.

Match schedule

On 1 April we will find out which teams will be included in the host nation Qatar in Group A of the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be held from 21 November to 18 December later this year.

Like every other World Cup group, Group A will consist of four teams from each of the four different pots. Host nation Qatar is pre-selected from Pot 1 to play in Group A as is customary according to World Cup tradition.

With this three more teams are going to come 2-4 from pots. All four pots are grouped according to the FIFA World Rankings published on 31 March

Betting odds

One infamous term during the World Cup is “death group”. The restructured format used by FIFA for draws starting in 2018 makes these slightly less likely. Rather than a pot of seeded teams and grouped by region, FIFA’s world ranking is based on how teams are placed in pots.

Fortunately, the world rankings have improved since some really terrifying editions over the years. Remember when the United States was ranked fourth in April of 2006? Yes.

The restructured draw format mostly worked in 2018. It helped a bit that Italy and the Netherlands weren’t around to add some brand-name firepower, but the hardest-hit group on paper may have been Group F with Sweden, Mexico, South Korea and Germany. It’s a dark group, but Germany is the only true force in that group (even though the Germans went home early).

This time, Germany and the Netherlands stand out in Pot 2. Something like Brazil/Argentina, Germany/Netherlands, Senegal and Wales would be much harder. If it is Germany, that would put two of the top six favorites in the same group with the African champions and the team comprising Gareth Bale.

It is notable that Germany (900, the fifth-favourite) is so high in the odds, given that the Germans are likely to get at least one semi-tough draw. Unless Germany removes Qatar from Pot 1, there will be two world powers in that group. Still, hosting teams is never easy. South Africa is the only host country that has not crashed out of the first round. Germany’s odds may shift on Friday, with the Pot 1 team pairing up with them.
