He is 23 years old. Born in St. Albert, Alberta to a single mother, Jost moved to British Columbia to pursue his hockey career at the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy. From there, he played with the Okanagan Rockets of the British Columbia Major Midget League and the Penticton Weiss of the British Columbia Hockey League to maintain his NCAA eligibility. Jost played one season of NCAA Division I ice hockey with the North Dakota Fighting Hawks, before being drafted 10th overall by the Avalanche in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
Jost made his NHL debut with the Avalanche during the 2016–17 season after the Fighting Hawks fell to Boston University in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament. His first international appearance was in 2014 when he was selected to compete with Canada White in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. The Avalanche re-signed their last major free agent on Friday, signing a two-year, $4 million contract with Tyson Jost.
Jost, 23, will earn $1.75 million next season and $2.25 million in 2022-23 from a league source. He was a banned free agent.

In continuation of their busy week, the Colorado Avalanche closed out another piece of their roster by signing Tyson Jost to a two-year contract extension. The deal will last through the 2022–23 season and Jost has one RFA year left before becoming an unrestricted free agent.
The deal is reported to carry an AAV of $2 million over two years, an increase from his current and expired $874k contract. Jost’s prior settlement was just an extension of his entry-level contract and a one-year qualifying offer, thus earning him a little more money and security after completing his fourth year in the league and 262 regular season games. Now by signing this extension Jost avoids filing arbitration because he was eligible to do so for the first time in his career on August 1.
