Tyrone Devine Matthews ( born May 13, 1992) is an American football safety who is a free agent. He played college football for Louisiana State University (LSU). In college he developed a reputation for generating turnovers, setting a Southeast Conference (SEC) record with 11 career comps and earning the nickname “Honey Badger” after the mammal of the same name. In his sophomore season, he was recognized as a unanimous All-American, won the Chuck Bednaric Award as the best defensive player in college football, and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. Matthews was dismissed from the LSU football program later that season due to team rules violations.

According to multiple reports, safety Tyron Matthews is expected to sign a contract with the New Orleans Saints.
