Tyrone Devine Matthews ( born May 13, 1992) is an American football safety who is a free agent. He played college football for Louisiana State University (LSU). In college he developed a reputation for generating turnovers, setting a Southeast Conference (SEC) record with 11 career comps and earning the nickname “Honey Badger” after the mammal of the same name. In his sophomore season, he was recognized as a unanimous All-American, won the Chuck Bednaric Award as the best defensive player in college football, and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. According to multiple reports, safety Tyron Matthews is expected to sign a contract with the New Orleans Saints.
