On October 19, Miami’s Jerome Brown broke the offensive line, sacking Ackman at the Sooner 29-yard line and breaking Ackman’s ankle. Aikman, who was making six of eight passes for 131 yards, would be lost for the season. Switzer and offensive coordinator Jim Donan were forced to return to the wishbone offense under freshman quarterback Jamel Holyway. The team won the 1985 national championship.
