Nationality

Opacic was born in Radcliffe, Queensland, Australia, and is of Serbian descent. He played his junior rugby league for the Radcliffe Dolphins, before being signed by the Brisbane Broncos.

Opacic plays tonight after his brother Jacob was killed in a suspicious hit-and-run near the Gold Coast on Friday.

Maroons

As players left the field after Origin I, attention turned to what changes were needed for Game Two at Suncorp Stadium.

Unsurprisingly, much of the conversation focused on Queensland after their massive defeat in Townsville.

Josh Papali is back from ban and Kalyan Ponga is expected to be fit, but what else can Maroon do?

If there are no injuries for NSW they will remain unchanged. Queensland will welcome Josh Papley and Tino Fasuamaleoui will go to the bench. He should be fullback with Cullin Ponga coming back and Valentin Holmes goes into the wing in place of Kyle Feld.

Tom Opacic and his partner Jordyn Keough have announced that they are expecting a baby together.

The entire Parramatta Eels side is wearing a black stripe following the death of center Tom Opecic’s brother.

His brother, Jacob, was killed on Friday in what police believe may have been a hit-and-run.

Emergency services were called to the accident on the Nerang Murvilumba Road in the Natural Bridge in the hinterland of the Gold Coast on Friday morning.

Opacic, 28, was pronounced dead on the spot by paramedics.

Contract

Opacic played just five NRL games in 2020, making two attempts, struggling to maintain a starting center position. On 3 October, the Cowboys announced that Opacic would be pulling out of the club at the end of the season. On 21 October, it was announced that Opacic has signed a one-year deal with Parramatta Eels.

Parramatta has confirmed the re-signing of center Tom Opacic by the end of 2022.

The Eels announced Friday night that the 26-year-old has signed a new deal that will extend his stay in blue and gold for another season.

Salary

The bargain buys Isaiah Papali, Tom Opacic and Bryce Cartwright all raised at the end of last year for a combined less than $500,000, each already playing well off their cut-price salaries.

This isn’t the first season, with Arthur saving some NRL stress to round out his roster with surprising payoffs.

With a change in in-game strategy, an honest assessment of Parramatta’s recent losses and a mature collection of marquee men, the Eels have once again started 2021 in great fashion.
