Background

A South Eastern Seagulls junior, Rudolph began his playing career as a South Sydney Under-20 side before graduating to the club’s then feeder side North Sydney. Rudolph played one season for North in the Canterbury Cup NSW before signing with Queensland Cup side Radcliffe Dolphins for 2018. Rudolf Radcliffe was part of the side that won the 2018 Premiership.

After being spotted by Cronulla-Sutherland, Rudolf signed a two-year deal with the club starting in 2019. Rudolph spent the entirety of 2019 playing for Cronulla’s feeder club side Newtown, where he won the 2019 Canterbury Cup NSW Premiership and the 2019 NRL State Championship. The last.

Rudolph made his NRL debut in the first round of the 2020 NRL season for Cronulla-Sutherland against South Sydney at ANZ Stadium.

In Round 18 of the 2020 NRL season, Rudolph made his first attempt at the top grade in Cronulla’s 22–14 victory over the New Zealand Warriors at the Kogarah Oval. The win meant that Cronula qualified for the final at New Zealand’s expense.

He also spoke about how the decision was crucial to his career, crediting his childhood and close family to the player he is today.

“I grew up in Maroubra, on a Housing Commission estate,” he said. “Mom, she raised me on my own, she was a single mom and everything to me – mom and dad. She was my whole world, she still is.”

With Rudolph’s mother unable to drive, she and the two boys went everywhere together.

“We had to walk to the shops, walk to the beach, walk to any walking sport,” he said. “Any dude who had a car, this is how we got around for long distance trips, but usually it was just mom driving everywhere.

“I’m not caught in the manly position,” he said. “What I would say is that I was raised by some gay and lesbian community members. My uncle is gay and my godmother is gay, and there is a lot of love in that community.

“Sexuality is very fluid. I’ve gone out and kissed many gay men, kissed many straight women and kissed many gay women,” he said.

“I’m not a one-stop shop. Love is love, and I like to share it with everyone. You could say I’m open to both sexes but attracted to only one of them.”

Rudolph was warned at the start of the 2021 season, when he said during a post-match TV interview that he was planning to go to the Northies to get drunk and “try and pull something; anything will do”.

Comments at the time were criticized for disrespecting women, but Rudolf said he never specified what he meant during the chat.

“I never said ‘woman’ at the time of that interview,” Rudolph said.
