Less than 14 months after a fatal car accident, Tiger Woods returned to the hallowed ground at Augusta National for the 86th Masters Tournament.
The five-time Green Jacket winner did not disappoint. Woods finished 1-under 71 on Thursday in his first competitive round of golf as he lost his right leg in a horrific accident. Despite a minor lameness, Woods looked comfortable through the 18 holes.
But will he be able to do it again the next day? And yet, is there the slightest chance of him struggling? Or possibly… win the sixth green jacket?
Korean golfer Sung Jae Im finished the first round atop the leaderboard at 5-under. Woods entered the second round in 10th place.
Tiger Woods clenches his fist after sinking a putt for a birdie on the 16th hole during the first round of the Masters.
Sungjae Im ahead after the first round
Korean golfer Sungjae Im climbed to the top of the leaderboard after shooting 5-under 67 with one eagle, five birdies and two bogeys during the first round of the Masters on Thursday.
“I think the key to my good round today was a warm start. I birdied the first three holes and I got into a rhythm,” I’m said later.
Cameron Smith is second after finishing 4-under.
Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, Sungjae Im tied for first place.
The top 3 finishers at the 2020 Masters are now at the top of the leaderboard. Sungjae joins co-leaders Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith after Im Sinkin.
