As Tiger Woods faces a challenging walk around Augusta National this week, he won’t be navigating the hills in Nike golf shoes.
Woods arrived on Sunday to prepare for his Masters in black Footjoy Premier Series Packard shoes and has donned the white version for the past two days.
When asked about the switch Tuesday morning, Woods explained that he needed a more stable shoe for his surgically corrected right foot, but said his shoe relationship with Nike isn’t over.
“I have very limited mobility now,” Woods said. “With the rods and plates and screws in my foot, I wanted something different, something that would allow me to be more stable. That’s what I’ve gone for. Nike has been fantastic over the years providing me with the tools and work we’ve done, and we’ve been trying to find something to allow me to do that and swing again. We’ll still continue to do it, and hopefully we’ll have something soon.

In his first in-depth interview since his February car accident, the upbeat Tiger Woods sheds light on his traumatic injuries, recovery, and what the future might hold.
“I think something that is realistic is playing tour one day – never full-time, then sometime – but pick and choose, like Mr. [Ben] Hogan did. Pick and choose a few events a year and you choose that. Play around,” Woods said during a Zoom interview with Golf Digest’s Henny Koyak from his South Florida home. “You practice around that, and you prepare yourself for that. I guess from now on I’ll have to play it like this. It’s an unfortunate reality, but it’s my reality. And I understand it, and I accept it.”
