Sifan Hassan is an Ethiopian-born Dutch  middle- and long-distance runner, she was born on 1 January 1993. She won two gold medals at the 2019 World Championships, in the 1500 metres and 10,000 metres events, becoming the only athlete (male or female) in history to win both events at a single World Championships or Olympic Games. Sifan Hassan was born in Adama,  Oromia,  Ethiopia and raised in the countryside of Kersa in the Munesa district of the Arsi Zone of Oromia. She left Ethiopia as a refugee and arrived in the Netherlands in 2008 at age fifteen.

Doping

Sifan Hassan said that the USADA’s investigation into doping was focused on the period before she joined NOP and that it was not related to her.Sifan Hassan said her career landed into uncertainty after her coach Alberto Salazar was handed a four-year ban. The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency(USADA) has banned Athletics coach Alberto Salazar, the famed track coach and former marathon champion, for four years.

The USADA said Salazar trafficked testosterone, infused a prohibited amount of L-carnitine, and tried to tamper with doping controls. Salazar is the head coach for long-distance running at the Nike Oregon Project (NOP). The USADA informed Salazar of allegations against him in June 2017. Sifan Hassan had won gold in the 10,000 meters at the World Championships in Doha on 28 September 2020.

“Many people think I am crazy. I think also I am crazy,” Hassan said after winning gold in the 1,500-meter race at Tokyo 2020 on Monday. That’s because the 28-year-old Dutch runner has set her sights on a historic treble: winning a medal in the 1,500-, 5,000- and 10,000-meter races.

Sifan Hassan was hoping to be the new world record holder in the women’s 5,000m. But she missed the mark on Friday evening by clocking a time of 14:27.89 at the Diamond League meeting in Eugene, USA.

The record of 14:06.62 set in Valencia, Spain, by Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey in 2020 remains in tact.

The Dutch runner won both the 5,000m and 10,000m titles at the Olympic Games. She also took a bronze medal in the 1,500m at Tokyo 2020.

Husband

Hassan is believed to be single and does not have a husband to date.
