Or Teddy Bridgewater

Ryan Tannehill: Stats Today| Or Teddy Bridgewater| Net Worth

When it comes to elite quarterbacks, I’m mostly ignoring their first week of struggles. I think Aaron Rodgers and the entire Packers offense will turn right against the Despicable Lions in primetime. I expect Lamar Jackson to play better at home against the Chiefs in a less hostile environment. And while Josh Allen has a more difficult matchup in Miami, he’s still in my top five as well.

One exception to this rule is Ryan Tanhill, and it probably isn’t fair.

Tanhill has been an essential quarterback ever since he wrestled the starting job away from Marcus Mariota. While he has done so with incredible efficiency, I expected the addition of Julio Jones to give Tanhill the ability to maintain that proficiency, or something close. In Week 1, it looked like the Titans should have traded for an offensive lineman instead

Chandler Jones and J.J. Watt terrified Tannehill, and his reaction was fuzzy. He was dismissed six times and threw for just 212 yards on 35 attempts. This was the second time in Tanhill’s tenure with the Titans that he was dismissed six times, and the first time since 2019. If you want a reason for optimism, he threw 391 yards and three touchdowns a week after the last time it happened.

It’s not just the offending line that worries me. It was also their first game without Arthur Smith. While Smith didn’t exactly look like an offensive talent in his debut with the Falcons, it’s certainly possible that the Titans wouldn’t be as good without him.

Just to say, I don’t see Tannehill as starting quarterback in Week 2. He’s not going to sit down either, but I’d start Ben Roethlisberger and Teddy Bridgewater on top of him.
