Injury:

Tampa Bay BuccaneersĀ Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen was carted off the field during Thursday’s training camp practice. Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles revealed during his press conference that Jensen suffered a knee injury, but did not go into detail.

Jensen is still undergoing tests to determine the severity of the injury, but theĀ NFL Network reports that the fear is that he has a significant injury. Meanwhile, a source toldĀ ESPNĀ that it’s “not looking good.”

Salary:

Jensen is the league’s fifth-highest paid center in 2020, averaging $10.5 million per season.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are re-signing center Ryan Jensen to a three-year, $39 million deal, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported late Sunday night, per Jensen’s agent. Jensen will earn $23 million guaranteed upon signing, Rapoport added.

The relationship between a quarterback and center is one of the most important in the game of football, so with Tom Brady the new man under center in Tampa Bay, itā€™s important he and Ryan Jensen get off on the right foot.

The duo were part of a group of Bucs players who took part in an informal workout this week at a Tampa prep school.

Free Agency:

Ryan Jensen was one of the Bengals’ top targets in free agency according to multiple reports, but the veteran center is staying in Tampa Bay.

Jensen agreed to a three-year, $39 million contract with the Buccaneers just hours after Tom Brady announced he would return for a 23rd seasons.

Retire:

Robert Hainsey is the player who took Jensen’s spot after he went down at practice, and he’s the most logical player to replace Jensen as the team’s starting center moving forward.

If he isn’t up to the task, then swing-lineman, Nick Leverett, is another guy who has the versatility to potentially fill the role.

The gathering allowed us to see our first glimpse of Brady in a Bucs helmet, while also providing Jensen the perfect opportunity to have some fun with his new quarterback on Twitter.
