Since The Shield broke up in 2014, many wrestling fans have wondered why WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns wouldn’t change up his in-ring costume and theme music. Looks like he is finally about to get his wish.
The Big Dog himself has confirmed that he will wrestle shirtless against his cousin Jay Uso at this Sunday’s Clash of Champions pay-per-view. However, Reigns plans to retain its SWAT-style black cargo pants.
“For the fans who want me to change my gear, let’s get it over there. I’m not going there in tights. However, if you see me this Sunday, you’ll probably see me with my shirt on. That’s the only change I’m making [to my outfit],” Regans said during a Zoom call with Mania Club, which was raising money for Conners Cure.
Reigns, who used his five-month hiatus to work on his body, said he is still working hard to be “stage-ready” for shirtless wrestling.
“I’m not perfect or a bodybuilder. But I feel confident to go out there and be an intimidating-looking athlete. Ever since I entered the wrestling business, I didn’t want my outfit to become a topic of discussion. Felt like a superstar and not just a ‘costume guy’,” he said.
As far as the new theme music is concerned, Reigns urged fans to be patient as his on-screen character hasn’t turned into a real heel yet.
“There’s a lot more to it than me making my own music. I have to go through a lot of channels for that. You have to understand that I’m not a bad guy on my own anymore. You put it [change in my character] in successive stages.” You have seen its layers by now,” he said.
