What you need to know about rockets
Even though the Rockets haven’t played well against the Nuggets recently (they were 2-8 in their last 10 games), they didn’t let the past stand in their way on Friday. Houston outscored Denver with the remaining points and took the game 105–86. The win made it two consecutive wins for the Rockets.

Several players turned in solid performances to lead Houston to victory, but perhaps none more than Fred VanVleet, who dropped a double-double at 17 points and 11 assists. VanVleet is averaging 16.6 points and 9.0 assists in his first season in Houston, while center Alpern Sengun is making a case for an All-Star appearance with 20.2 points, 9.1 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game. However, Houston is the only team that has not won on the road this season (0-5), as the team is giving up 16.2 more points per game on the road than at home. Here’s a look at which team to choose

The Dallas Mavericks improved to 11-6 on the year by defeating the Houston Rockets 121-115 at home on Tuesday night. Luka Doncic scored 41 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out nine assists to lead Dallas. Alpern Sengun defeated the Rockets by 31.
A change in the starting lineup for the Dallas Mavericks could help turn off one of their better defensive starts to the regular season so far. Houston did its job by missing all of its shots and at one point the Mavericks led by as much as 12 before the Rockets bench helped them get back into the game. A pair of Tim Hardaway threes gave Dallas some breathing room and the Mavericks led 29–22 after twelve minutes of action.

The second quarter of basketball was poor with a lot of fouls committed by both sides. The Rockets were able to hold on for most of the frame, although Dallas eventually extended their lead to double digits again after Dillon Brooks picked up his third foul. Houston continued to trail and was outscored by under two minutes in the final two minutes, but Luka Doncic’s free throws gave Dallas a 54–50 lead at the half.

The Rockets quickly took the lead to start the third and the Dallas Mavericks spent the entire period trying to retake the lead. Fouls and free throws continued to be the story for both teams. Derek Lively’s bad whistle continued and he picked up his fourth foul midway through the period. Dallas cut the lead to two, only for the Rockets to immediately respond. Aaron Holiday’s eight points helped keep Houston ahead but Kyrie Irving found his shot and brought Dallas back within four as the Mavericks closed out the period 88–84.

Highlights

Award-winning rookie Jabari Smith scored a career-high 24 points in his most decisive offensive performance as a professional, and frontcourt partner Alpern Sengun dazzled with 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in just 26 minutes. Yet despite the brilliance of the Rockets’ young franchise anchors, win No. 10 of the 2022-23 season eluded them in a 112-106 loss. The main culprit in Houston’s defeat? Rockets coach Stephen Silas provided a brief summary after the game.

“Too much Luca.”

Dallas’ leading man has earned the one-name nickname a la LeBron or Giannis. Luke Doncic is one of the most decorated young guards in NBA history as he enters his fifth season with the Mavericks, and on Friday he turned in a performance that is one of the best of his career. Doncic did not have his second career 50-point game in a narrow win over Houston. He added eight rebounds and 10 assists, and fell just short of becoming the seventh player to record a 50-point triple double.
