Philip Bennett OBE (born 24 October 1948) is a former Welsh international rugby union half-flyer from 1969 to 1978. His temperament and range of moves, which included his famous sidestep and sway, meant he was a favorite with the crowd.

The Scarlets have confirmed that Phil Bennett is battling the disease in response to online speculation over Welles’ great health.
The Welsh region issued a brief statement with an update on the former fly-half, 73, who played a total of 37 Test matches, including eight Lions caps, between 1969 and 1978.
“Our President Phil Bennett is unwell and is being looked after by his family,” the statement said.
“Phil is battling like the true Scarlett he has always been and our thoughts and prayers are with him. We would ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
Bennett won 29 caps for Wales between 1969 and 1978, including two Five Nations Grand Slam winning teams.
In the second of them, in 1978, he made two tries as Wales beat France in Cardiff to complete their clean sweep of victory.
Bennett played club rugby for 16 seasons at Llanelli RFC.
He played 20 times for the Barbarians, including the famous game against the All Blacks in January 1973.
In that game he was the catalyst for Gareth Edwards’ early effort in the game which is still regarded as one of the best scores.
What happened to
The 73-year-old is said to be battling an illness and is being looked after by his family. His former club took to social media to address online speculation about his health.
