Three years ago, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was toasted at the NFL Honors after winning the league MVP award.

Mahomes was roasted at the event by hosts Keegan-Michael Key on Thursday.

A photo of Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s outfit shown before the AFC Championship Game. Burrows was paying tribute to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Key said it had an effect on Mahomes.

“This costume is so mind blowing, Patrick Mahomes saw a picture of this outfit at halftime and forgot to play football,” joked Key.

There was a mix of groans and laughter, and the camera went to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who kind of smiled and didn’t even show the sign of a smile.

Despite his team not making the big game, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes found a way to star in the Super Bowl.

Mahomes found her way into two iconic and uber-popular Super Bowl commercials at press time. The first advertisement aired during the pre-game ceremony when a location for the app was displayed.

It should come as no surprise that he’s in these commercials, with advertisers probably thinking he was a lock to appear in the big game, but it didn’t.

NFL Honors has a long tradition that hosts some of the world’s best athletes laugh and shame with jokes throughout the ceremony.

This year, Keegan-Michael Key took a shot at Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and when the camera focused on Mahomes’ favorite target, tight end Travis Kelce, his facial expressions said it all.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s organization was applauded as he entered Arrowhead Stadium for the AFC Championship, where he defeated the Chiefs to advance to the Super Bowl, then attacked Mahomes.

“This costume is so brainy, Patrick Mahomes saw a picture of this costume at half time and forgot to play football,” Key said.

Kells’ feeling toward Jabba was evident as he nodded his head in despair.

“I’m sorry, Travis,” Keys said afterwards.

For the past two seasons, Kelce and the rest of the Chiefs have participated in Super Bowl week events, including NFL Honors, due to preparation for play in the big game.

The joke, though painful for Chiefs fans, carries some weight because the gap in Mahomes’ game from the first half to the second half is as mind-blowing as Burrow’s outfit.
