Blackface

Patrick Kane: Blackface| Allegations| Cab Driver

When we tweeted about local coverage of the Chicago Blackhawks Halloween party last night, we did so reluctantly: the notion that Adam Burish (notes) as Dennis Rodman and Patrick Kane (notes) as Scottie Pippen was for ourselves. Wearing “blackface” was racially insensitive. The Chicago Bulls costumes are a joke.

This is something that didn’t even occur to us when we first blogged about the Blackhawks’ attire on Monday because it wasn’t an example of offensive satire or blatant bigotry. But on reflection, the image was clearly a sports media pinata for a columnist who could either express outrage or sound the politically correct siren; Ernest Wilkins of the Chicago Tribune’s Red Eye did one of two earlier this week, focusing on Kane.

Allegations

According to Herbach and Mitchell, the woman alleged that he “forced himself on her and raped her” when she went back to Kane’s house after meeting at a local club.

Later DNA testing questioned the veracity of the woman’s claims. Additionally, her initial attorney dropped her as a client due to the molestation allegation.

According to CBS Chicago, Thomas Aounou said, “I don’t believe the version [of events] that was provided to me.” The lawyer said, however, “the development should not automatically dismiss the central allegation that Kane sexually assaulted his former client.”

Cab Driver

He was accused of allegedly assaulting a 62-year-old cab driver. The incident occurred in the early morning when Keynes was told that cab driver Jan Radecki did not have 20 cents in change for his fare. Initially, Keynes was charged with felony robbery, which could have resulted in significant fines and prison. Time. However, when the case went to the grand jury, the felony charges were dropped in favor of lesser charges. Charges include third degree assault, theft of services and harassment.

Patrick Kane expressed relief that the more serious charges were dropped, calling it a “positive step”. Meanwhile, the cabbie was not demanding jail time for Caines. Instead, he wanted a public apology. Caines ultimately pleaded guilty to a non-criminal violation of disorderly conduct as part of a plea agreement, sparing him jail time. This was on the condition that he stay away from any trouble with the law for a year. He was also ordered to submit a written apology to Radecki.
