Paolo Napoleon James Banchero (Italian: born November 12, 2002) is an American-Italian professional basketball player for the Orlando Magic of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Banchero played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils. Following his freshman season, Banchero announced for the 2022 NBA Draft, where he was selected by the Orlando Magic with the first overall pick. In 2022, he was named ACC Rookie of the Year.

Banchero had a stellar performance in his one and only season at Duke. He appeared in 39 games with the Blue Devils and posted an average of 17.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.1 steals on 47.8 percent shooting from the field.

Banchero was a unanimous Second Team All-American and was named ACC Rookie of the Year.

Orlando Magic rookie Paolo Banchero threw a formal first pitch for his hometown Seattle Mariners on Friday as they hosted the Los Angeles Angels.

Panchero was up for celebration as both teams opened a weekend series at T-Mobile Park. He’s back in the Pacific Northwest and recently participated in the annual crossover Pro-Am, in which he dropped 50 points.

The No. 1 pick brought Teal to loud applause from the crowd as fans welcomed him with open arms. Banchero took a few moments to collect himself and then strikes Paul Sewald.

In his sophomore season, Banchero averaged 18.2 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game, leading O’Dea to the Class 3A state championship, where he was named Most Valuable Player. As a junior, he averaged 22.6 points, 11 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.6 blocks per game for the Class 3A runner-up, earning Washington Gatorade Player of the Year and MaxPreps National Junior of the Year honors. Banchero was named to the McDonald’s All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic roster.
