The 2022 NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament will be a single-elimination tournament to determine the national champion of men’s NCAA Division II college basketball in the United States.

As of late Wednesday night, 64 teams will be competing for the men’s national championship. The number of actual contenders is a fraction of that – though, it must be said, higher than last year, when Baylor and Gonzaga took the field.
In this more wide open year, we can probably make a case for a dozen teams. But 10 is a rounder number, so let’s go with it. One of the following teams will cut the nets at NOLA on 4th April:
Seed: No. 1 in the West. Path to Final Four, if seeding occurs: Georgia State, Boise State, Arkansas, Duke. Approximate Path: Georgia State, Boise State, Arkansas, Texas Tech. The selection committee gave the toughest field to the overall No. 1 seed with stringent tests in the second, third and fourth rounds.
The Zags have been No. 1 in the Kane Pomeroy ratings almost every week of the season and have never been lower than No. 2. They are the best offensive team in the country per kenpom and are in the top 10 defensively. They have arguably the best trio of players in the tournament—big men Chet Holmgren and Drew Timme and point guard Andrew Nembard—and the supporting cast is pretty capable, too. Add to that Mark Few’s elite coaching and last year’s experience and appetite for both the national title game, and this team is about to beat. Gonzaga must answer the question: Does it have the necessary physical toughness and intensity of each sport? After playing a lot of matches in the last two months, there is no coast now.
Seed: No. 1 in the South. Path to Final Four, if seeding: Wright State-Bryant winner, Seton Hall, Illinois, Villanova. Approximate Path: Wright State, TCU, Houston, Tennessee. The Wildcats will be challenged in Sweet 16 and Elite Eight.
Arizona is the complete package: big, athletic, capable shooter, aspiring passer-by, avid defender. Benedict Mathurin is an NBA level talent, and Tommy Lloyd has three guys at 6’11” and above who can all play at a higher level.
