The 2021-22 season and the NBA draft are both on the books, and now all eyes are on the start of free agency. The speculation and rumors that surround free agency make this time of year truly amusing. Some of the biggest names in the free-agent market may not be available this summer, but it’s still going to be a busy season. Hours before free agency officially began, Kevin Durant requested a trade away from the Brooklyn Nets. One of the NBA’s biggest superstars is now set to switch teams this summer, and KD’s trade request will undoubtedly affect how the teams handle their off-season business.

This year’s free-agent class isn’t one of the darkest in recent memory, but it’s still headlined by a trio of multi-time All-Stars in Zach LaVine, Bradley Beal, and James Harden. It also includes one of the league’s rising stars in Deandre Ayten, and Jalen Brunsson, one of this season’s breakout players.

Before NBA free agency could bring any sort of excitement, Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets provided all the fireworks with their trade request, flipping the franchise — and the league — on its head. One of the biggest ripples of that move was the revival of Kyrie Irving’s prospect for the Lakers, a move that seemed dead in the water after he was selected in the final year of his contract earlier this week.

So, as free agency was playing out and the Lakers were signing Lonnie Walker IV and Damien Jones and Juan Tuscano-Andersen, it all hung with Kyrie in the background.
