On July 6, N’Keil Harry’s agent, Jamal Tusson, announced that he had formally requested the Patriots to trade his client. On July 28, Harry was still in New England and present for the Patriots on the first day of training camp. Three days later, the wide receiver is still here.

On Friday, Harry met the media for the first time since his agent requested trade. The Patriots’ 2019 first-round pick said he is still happy in New England and will be happy if he doesn’t trade.

“Right now, I’m not really worried about anything business-wise,” said Harry as to why he requested a trade. “I’m focused on how to be the best version of myself on the field, get out there, work hard and improve every day.”

Trade value

What can the New England Patriots get in exchange for a 2019 first round draft pick if N’Keel Harry requests a trade?

Probably not by much, at least according to one NFL executive.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler tweeted Thursday that he spoke to a league executive who speculated that Harry’s trade value is a low draft pick.

Spoke to a league executive, who speculates that N’Keel Harry will deserve a conditional 6th rd pick. The teams are expected to be interested. Harry would be on the lookout for offense to use as a competitive catch man, size and strength in the red zone and deep. Speed and precision offense might not be for him—Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN) July 8, 2021
Harry has done poorly in his two pro seasons. After a difficult rookie campaign that was interrupted by injuries, the 23-year-old wide receiver struggled to make a remarkable impact in Year 2. He counted 33 receptions for 309 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games last season.

Trade destinations

The N’Kill Harry era in New England is over.

The Patriots have traded the 24-year-old wide receiver for the Chicago Bears as a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.

This trade opens up about $1 million in salary cap space for the Patriots.

Harry was selected by the Patriots in the first round of the 2019 draft (32nd overall). He was the first wide receiver selected in Round 1 by Bill Belichick during his two-decade tenure as the Patriots’ head coach.

The Arizona state product was a massive stir. He ended his Patriots career with just 57 receptions for 598 yards and four touchdowns. Injuries plagued him during his three seasons with the Patriots, but even when Harry was healthy, he was often unproductive. Harry also requested a trade before last season, but the Patriots opted to keep him.

Harry now gets a fresh start with the Bears and the Patriots move on with an improved wide receiver group that included deVante Parker via trade in April.
