UFC star Molly McCann snapped a two-fight losing streak and scored the first submission win of her career by tapping out Diana Belbita.
‘Meatball’ was winless in 18 months heading into his fight against Belbita at UFC Fight Night 235 in Las Vegas. Scouser was beaten on the ground by Erin Blanchfield in her pay-per-view debut at UFC 281 and surprisingly tapped out by Juliza Stolyarenko in London last July.
McCann was hoping to add a twist to her strawweight debut against Belbita, whom she had already defeated on points when they fought in 2019. She started her second fight against the Romanian by landing a big overhand and Belbita was on the back foot. In the initial seconds. McCann continued to improve her striking and was increasingly dominating Belbita on the feet.
McCann landed a nice double leg takedown and appeared to be in full form by the end of the first round. Scouser was landing heavy elbows in the final 10 seconds but it looked like Belbita would be saved by the bell. McCann then abandoned his attacks and jumped on the arm-bar, causing Belbita to tap out with only one second remaining in the round.
