He was traded to the Diamondbacks in 2014 while still a minor league prospect. He made his MLB debut with the Diamondbacks in 2016. During his time in MLB, he received the nickname “The Shade” for performing several baseball “tools” including hitting, running, and fielding.
Injury
CLEVELAND – He was the last thing Mitch Hanniger needed during the last two years.
During the first innings of Sunday’s 6-2 win against the Indians at Progressive Field, Seattle’s right fielder threw Shane Bieber’s four-seam fastball through the inside of his left knee. The Mariners later classified the injury as a left knee injury.
Manager Scott Servais called it a post-traumatic bone injury after Hanniger underwent X-rays. It is likely that the right fielder will undergo further testing, such as an MRI, when the club returns to Seattle late Sunday. Service was not sure whether the former All-Star would need an IL tenure.

In 2013, Hanniger began the season with Wisconsin, before being promoted to the Brevard County Manatees of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League. Combined, Hanniger had a .264 batting average, .348 on-base percentage, 11 home runs and 68 runs.
The Brewers invited Hanniger to spring training in 2014. Failing to make the cut for the team’s 25-man roster, Hanniger was assigned to the Huntsville Stars of the Class AA Southern League to begin the season.
2020
SEATTLE — Mitch Hanniger has missed all of the 2020 season to recover from surgery on a herniated disc in his back, but Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto said Monday that he expects the 2018 American League All-Star to start next year. will return to the correct area.
Hanniger worked at Seattle for the past few months, but was not with the team because he was not part of the allotted 60-man player pool, so there was no chance he was going to be active on the regular-season roster.
“I know his recovery has accelerated in the last 30-40 days,” Dipoto said. “He is feeling as good as he has felt during this process. … He will be fed up and will be released to play by the new year.
