Michael Gerard Tyson (born June 30, 1966) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1985 to 2005. Nicknamed “Iron Mike” and “Kid Dynamite” in his early career, and later became known as “The Baddest Man on the Planet”. Tyson is considered one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. He reigned as the undisputed World Heavyweight Champion from 1987 to 1990. Tyson won his first 19 professional matches by knockout, 12 of them in the first round. Claiming his first belt at the age of 20 years, four months and 22 days, Tyson holds the record for the youngest boxer to win a heavyweight title. He was the first heavyweight boxer to hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles simultaneously, as well as the only heavyweight to unify them in succession. The following year, Tyson became the lineal champion when he knocked out Michael Spinks in 91 seconds of the first round. In 1990, Tyson was ousted by underdog Buster Douglas  in one of the biggest upsets in history.

Punch power

Tyson is estimated to have a punch power of up to 1,600 joules. Rocky Marciano, the only world champion who has never touched defeat, has ever been measured by the power of his blows. The result is only 1,256 joules.

But Tyson is not alone. Earlier, another legendary boxer, Frank Bruno was also known to possess the same punch power as Tyson. However, a combination of other aspects proved Tyson’s strength over Bruno. After all, Bruno also became a victim of Tyson. Tyson kicked him out on March 16, 1996. Bruno is helpless after Tyson gets two punches.

In addition to the Vespa percussion, Thrillist also shows off the power of Tyson’s punch, which is equivalent to being shot by 13 people using a 22 caliber pistol using a flak jacket. Tyson’s hit, on the other hand, felt like a fall from a height of 2.1 meters.

Face tattoos

In 2003, just before his fight against Clifford Etienne, Mike Tyson had a tattoo on his face. According to the heavyweight boxer himself, he initially wanted a heart, but the tattoo artist would not:

“I thought it was a cool tattoo. I was going to get a bunch of hearts and stuff, and that would be really stupid. I was going to be the heart man, baby. Tattoo artist Victor Perez said ‘I’m not that doing. I can’t do that'” Tyson said in an interview with Graham Bensinger.

Tyson then finished with a tribal pattern, which was a popular tattoo design at the time:

“I waited and two days later [Victor Perez] called and said ‘Mike, I’ve got some tribal stuff’. I said ‘Wow, put another one in there’. I was like ‘That’s cool, let me get this’ like’. So he did.”

Jamie Foxx is set to portray Mike Tyson in a limited series titled ‘Tyson’. Earlier, the biopic of the former heavyweight champion titled ‘Finding Mike’ was also expected to be a full-length feature film.

While Foxx and Tyson have yet to elaborate on the mini-series’ potential release date, ScreenRant has reported that it won’t be available for streaming until 2022.

Initially, Martin Scorsese was slated to direct the biopic. The 78-year-old will now serve as executive producer. The new director, Antoine Fuqua, will also executive produce Tyson. Fuqua is best known for directing films such as “Training Day” (2001), “The Equalizer” (2014) and “Southpaw” (2015).

The first episode of the mini-series was written by Colin Preston, who continues to work on the screenplay for the remaining episodes. It has not been announced yet on which platform the show will be shown.

In February this year, Hulu announced that they would be coming up with a series based on the life of Mike Tyson, for which the American streaming giant received a ton of criticism from the legendary boxer.

Tyson noted that it was “unfortunate” how Hulu went ahead with its plans to make a biopic on him without any compensation, according to a report from Variety.
