Miguel Rojas Retirement: Decision, Final Announcement and World Series Rings

Miguel Rojas has officially announced his retirement from Major League Baseball following the Los Angeles Dodgers’ elimination from the 2026 National League Championship Series. The veteran infielder confirmed the decision on October 15, 2026, bringing his 13-year MLB playing career to an emotional close.

Rojas leaves baseball as a two-time World Series champion and a respected clubhouse leader. His biggest moment came in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series, when his ninth-inning home run helped the Dodgers keep their championship hopes alive.

Has Miguel Rojas Retired?

Yes. Miguel Rojas has announced his retirement as a professional baseball player after the Dodgers lost to the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2026 NLCS.

Before the postseason, Rojas had planned to make 2026 his final season. However, he admitted that he was still considering his future and had not completely ruled out playing in 2027.

The Dodgers’ postseason elimination ultimately brought his playing career to an end. Rojas told his teammates that he would remain with the organization in a different capacity rather than continue playing.

His announcement marked the end of a career defined by defensive versatility, team-first leadership and memorable contributions during the Dodgers’ championship runs.

Miguel Rojas Retirement Decision Explained

Rojas’ retirement decision developed over several months. When he signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Dodgers in December 2025, he indicated that the 2026 season would be his last in the major leagues.

Nevertheless, his decision was not always straightforward. Rojas remained passionate about baseball and believed he could still contribute at the highest level.

In September 2026, he explained that his feelings about retirement changed from day to day. He also made it clear that he did not want to play for another team after his successful return to Los Angeles.

The possibility of a third consecutive championship briefly left the door open to another season. However, after the Dodgers’ NLCS defeat, Rojas confirmed that his time as a player had ended.

Why Did Miguel Rojas Decide to Retire?

Several factors shaped Rojas’ decision:

• Family priorities: After 13 seasons in the major leagues, he had to consider the demands of continuing his playing career.

• A successful career: Two World Series championships gave him a memorable way to finish his time on the field.

• Loyalty to the Dodgers: Rojas wanted to remain connected to the organization rather than play for another club.

• A new career opportunity: His transition into player development offers a way to continue helping the Dodgers.

Retirement does not mean Rojas is leaving baseball completely. Instead, he is preparing for a new professional chapter with the organization that helped define his career.

Miguel Rojas’ Next Role With the Dodgers

Although Rojas will no longer play in MLB games, he is expected to remain with the Dodgers in a player development role.

This transition fits his reputation as an experienced teammate who understands the technical and mental demands of professional baseball. Throughout his career, Rojas earned respect for his preparation, defensive flexibility and willingness to support younger players.

His long-term ambition also includes the possibility of becoming a manager. Working in player development could give him valuable experience in coaching, evaluating talent and helping players improve.

For the Dodgers, retaining Rojas means keeping an experienced baseball mind within the organization. His knowledge of the club’s culture and championship experience could prove useful to the next generation of players.

How Many World Series Rings Does Miguel Rojas Have?

His second championship was particularly memorable. During Game 7 of the 2025 World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, Rojas hit a game-tying home run in the ninth inning. The Dodgers eventually won in 11 innings, securing their second consecutive championship.

Those two rings give Rojas a fitting legacy as a contributor to one of the most successful periods in Dodgers history.

Miguel Rojas’ MLB Career and Achievements

Miguel Rojas made his major league debut with the Dodgers in 2014. He later joined the Miami Marlins, where he spent eight seasons before returning to Los Angeles in 2023.

Across his 13-year MLB career, Rojas established himself as a versatile infielder capable of playing multiple positions. His experience, defensive reliability and leadership made him valuable even when he was not in the starting lineup.

His career highlights include:

• Making his MLB debut with the Dodgers in 2014.

• Spending eight seasons with the Miami Marlins.

• Returning to Los Angeles in 2023.

• Winning two World Series championships.

• Hitting a crucial home run in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series.

• Earning recognition for his leadership in the Dodgers clubhouse.

Rojas finished his career with a .260 batting average, according to the Los Angeles Times. His influence, however, extended beyond his offensive statistics.

What Miguel Rojas’ Retirement Means for the Dodgers

Rojas’ retirement creates a change both on the field and inside the Dodgers clubhouse. The team loses an experienced infielder who could cover several positions and provide guidance to younger teammates.

However, his expected move into player development means the Dodgers can continue benefiting from his knowledge and leadership.

The organization will need to account for his absence when planning its infield depth for the next season. At the same time, Rojas can begin helping develop future players without the physical demands of a major league playing schedule.

His retirement also closes the chapter on a remarkable postseason story. After helping the Dodgers win consecutive championships, he leaves the game remembered for a defining home run and his commitment to the team.

Miguel Rojas has officially retired from MLB following the Dodgers’ 2026 NLCS elimination. His decision ends a 13-year playing career that included two World Series rings, a memorable Game 7 home run and years of leadership in Los Angeles.
