Aussie swimming legend Michael Klim is unable to walk unaided after spending the last two years battling an incurable disorder that’s left him with no feeling in his feet.
The Olympic gold medal winner is forced to use walking sticks and braces for support since being diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy in 2020 after finding it difficult to maintain balance and suffering numbness.

A memorial service will be Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel of Florence Memorial Gardens.
The family will have a time of visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. before the service in the Mausoleum Chapel.
Mike was born in Middletown, Ohio, the son of the late Teresa Hughes Klim and the late Joseph William Klim. He was a graduate of Francis Marion University. He was Operations Sales Manager with the Pepsi Company for more than thirty years.
Gold Medals:
Klim was the only Australian to win a gold medal at both the Sydney 2000 Olympics and the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
A triple Olympian, Klim won medals at each of the three Olympics he participated in: bronze in the men’s 4x100m medley relay in 1996; gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x200m freestyle relay and silver in the men’s 4x100m medley relay and men’s 100m butterfly in 2000; and silver in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay.
