Despite recovering from back-to-back losses, UFC flyweight Messi Barber doesn’t feel much pressure to win his next match as he believes he’s still bringing hype inside the Octagon.
Back in 2018, Messi Barber entered the UFC as one of the future flyweight superstars after winning his Dana White’s Contender Series 13 Fight vs Jamie Colleen. Considered a future superstar in the promotion, Barber recorded three wins in his first three UFC appearances.
However, since then things started going downhill for the 23-year-old.
In January last year, Barber suffered the first defeat of his career against Roxanne Modafari at UFC 246 and also tore his knee. After recovering, she returned to the cage against Alexa Grasso on February 13 of this year at UFC 258, but suffered another defeat.

Top prospect Messi Barber will return to action against Montana de la Rosa at the upcoming UFC Fight Night event on April 23.

After an impressive victory over Dana White’s Contender Series, Barber joined the UFC roster hoping to become the youngest champion in promotional history. He scored three consecutive victories to begin his UFC career, but then Barber stumbled in his next two matches, which included a loss to Roxanne Modafari after a serious knee injury in the fight.
Barber returned to the winning column in her last fight with a split decision victory over Miranda Maverick and will now look to make it two in a row when she returns in April.
As far as De La Rosa is concerned, she has been a mainstay on the UFC roster since appearing in The Ultimate Fighter Season 21. De La Rosa has had mixed results inside the Octagon but earned an impressive TKO on Ariane Lipsky in her most recent appearance in June. 2021.
De La Rosa will now take on Barber as both fighters look to make waves in the flyweight division of the UFC.

Messi Barber made a punishing performance in all three rounds to win a one-sided decision over Montana de la Rosa at UFC Vegas 52.
The 23-year-old prospect was dominant in this win as he relentlessly pressed De La Rosa against the cage, taking some brutal punches and elbows from the inside. Barber never slowed his pace as he continued to beat De La Rosa until the final horn and all three judges cleared him with a 30-27 score across the board.
“It feels amazing,” Barber said of his victory. “To be honest, I don’t have any specific call outs but I know I’m going to be champion one day. I’m coming for the belt.”
It was a war of positions against Cage, with Barber holding the fight almost immediately, with de la Rosa relentlessly fighting for the underhook as he attempted to reverse the situation.
Confident in his ability to hold on to the pressure, Barber began to land some brutal punches on the inside, including a shot that hit De La Rosa’s ear behind what appeared to be momentarily staggering. Barber continued to scuffle with de la Rosa to get out of the bad situation.
As the second round began, Barber sought out the same strategy, except this time De La Rosa was able to drag the fight to the canvas, where she seemed to demonstrate her fighting game. Barber eventually broke free of de la Rosa’s grip, which allowed him to reach the top where he began to drop an elbow from inside the guard.
