Matisse Thybulle enters the 2026-27 NBA season as one of the Los Angeles Lakers’ key defensive wings. After spending the previous seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers and Portland Trail Blazers, Thybulle joined the Lakers on a one-year contract and is competing for an important role in the team’s new-look rotation.

The 29-year-old guard-forward is best known for his defensive instincts, steals, deflections and ability to defend multiple positions. His move to Los Angeles gives the Lakers another athletic perimeter defender around Luka Dončić.

Matisse Thybulle Stats

Thybulle has built his NBA career around defense rather than high-volume scoring. In the 2025-26 season with Portland, he appeared in 30 games and averaged 5.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in 16.0 minutes. He also shot 39.8% from three-point range.

Those numbers highlight his value as a defensive specialist. Thybulle can make an impact without needing many offensive touches, particularly through steals, blocks and pressure on opposing ball-handlers.

According to the Lakers, he has averaged 5.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.6 steals across 377 regular-season games in his NBA career.

Matisse Thybulle Contract

Thybulle signed a one-year, $3.3 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers in July 2026. The deal brought him to Los Angeles after his time with Portland.

The Lakers targeted Thybulle because of his defensive reputation and experience. He has twice been named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team, making him a proven perimeter defender.

His contract also gives Los Angeles a veteran defensive option without requiring a major long-term financial commitment.

His size, length and athleticism allow him to guard wings and many guards. Those physical tools are a major part of his defensive effectiveness.
