Manti Malietau Louis Teo is an American football linebacker who is a free agent. Te’o played college football at Notre Dame, where he was a consensus All-American and received eight national awards. He was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Te’o detailed in a January 2013 interview with ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap that he did not know Kekua until early 2010 when they connected on Facebook during his freshman year at Notre Dame.
A South Bend Tribune report had said Te’o and Kekua met in person in the fall of 2009 after the Irish’s 45-38 loss at Stanford, where Kekua was allegedly a student.

Sometime in 2012, Kekua got into a car accident that left her “near death,” but different outlets report different timelines. Some say it happened as soon as she and Te’o’s relationship went from platonic to romantic, others say it was April, while others say it was in January.
In June 2012, as Kekua is recovering from injuries she suffered in the car crash, her doctors reportedly diagnosed her with leukemia.
