The LSU Tigers began their regular season under new head coach Brian Kelly when they took on the Florida State Seminos (1-0) on Sunday in New Orleans. Kelly was named the Tigers’ 34th head football coach on December 1 last year after spending the past 12 seasons at Notre Dame. The Seminoles opened their season last week with a 47-7 win over Duquesne in Tallahassee, Fla. The 40-point victory was the biggest margin in the season opener by FSU since defeating Texas State 59–16 in 2015.

Kickoff from the Caesar Superdome is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. The Seminoles went on to win the last four matches to lead the all-time series 7–2. The Tigers are the 3.5-point favorite in Caesar Sportsbook’s latest Florida State vs. LSU odds, while the over/under for total points scored is set at 50. Predictions

LSU vs Florida State: Odds| Line| Predictions| Score| Highlights

LSU looks the more talented in most status groups, but the Tigers need time to go to jail. Given that Florida State got a Week 0 tune-up and is continuing in Year 3 under Norwell, the Seminoles should benefit in terms of comfort and liquidity. Although LSU would have an advantage in fan representation, playing at the Superdome would not be nearly as intimidating to the Seminoles as playing a night game at Tiger Stadium. Prediction: Florida State (3)

Highlights

College football powers Florida State and LSU meet on a Sunday for the first time since 1991 as the historically proud two events open their seasons under the spotlight in the day’s only college football game. Both schools have held national championships over the past decade (LSU in 2019, Florida State in 2013), but both are coming off losing seasons and can deliver a Week 1 win over a name-brand rival.

Florida State coach Mike Norwell entered his third season with an 8–13 record, while LSU coach Brian Kelly begins his stint in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after 12 seasons at Notre Dame. Although the teams haven’t met in more than three decades, coaches should be familiar with each other from the memorable game played over last season’s opening weekend

Kelly’s Notre Dame squad beat the Seminoles 41-38 in an overtime thriller – also played on Sunday – to open the 2021 campaign. While Florida State’s competition in that game against a fighting Irish squad coming out of a college football playoff appearance looked like a good sign, the Seminoles followed up the following week with a surprise defeat to Jacksonville State and a bowling victory. Failed to reach the game. Kelly’s Notre Dame team finished 11–1, and Kelly left to handle an LSU event in need of a reboot before the Fiesta Bowl.
