LIV Golf is a professional golf tour financed by the Public Investment Fund, the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Saudi Arabia. The name LIV is a reference to the Roman numeral 54, the score if birdies were made on each hole on a par-72 course and the number of holes played in LIV events. The first LIV Golf Invitational Series event began on 9 June 2022 at the Centurion Club near London, England.

Purse
All eight LIV golf events will carry a purse of $25 million. That puts LIV Golf Portland’s purse at $7.5 million, more than the most lucrative major on the PGA Tour, the 2022 US Open ($17.5 million).
LIV Golf’s big purses are part of the reason the PGA Tour has unveiled big purses for eight events next season. There will be a total of $20 million worth of purses at these events.
Winners purse
The winner of LIV Golf Portland will receive $4 million in the winner’s share. This represents 16 percent of the event’s total purse. The four winning members of the team portion of the competition will receive an additional $750,000 on top of their payouts. So, golfers can earn up to $4.75 million in a LIV golf event.

Purse breakdown
The total purse for each LIV Golf Invitational Series tournament is $25 million. Of that $25 million, $5 million will be given to teams while $20 million will be given to individual players.
The team championship, which will take place during the eighth and final series of the season, will pay an additional $50 million.
For comparison, the Masters and the PGA Championship, the two crown jewels of the PGA calendar, “only” had a purse of $15 million in 2022.
According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, the total amount of purse money on offer in LIV Golf’s inaugural season is $255 million.
