Mistake
The seven-time world champion collided with his teammate on the first lap of the race as he tried to sweep around the outside of both Russell and Max Verstappen.
Hamilton got stuck in the gravel and crashed out of the race, while Russell’s chances of a podium finish were ruined, although he managed to come up through the field to take a very good fourth place.
After the race, Hamilton accepted full responsibility for the accident, and apologized to both Russell and his team for the mistake.
Rosberg, who himself clashed with Hamilton on several occasions when they were teammates at Mercedes, has spoken out about the incident and emphasized Hamilton’s role in the accident.
Albuquerque
Lewis Hamilton revealed his ‘fight’ at the United States Grand Prix was inspired by the frustration of his first corner crash with Mercedes teammate George Russell in Qatar.
The seven-time F1 world champion finished second at the Circuit of the Americas after a race-long strategy battle with Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.
Hamilton closed on Verstappen for the lead late in the race as the Dutchman suffered brake problems with the Briton running on medium compound compared to the hards on the Red Bull.
The deficit reduced rapidly in the final laps but Hamilton did not have time to launch an attack to win the race.
Why was disqualified
Lewis Hamilton lost second place at the United States Grand Prix after being disqualified when his Mercedes failed inspection for physical floor and plank wear after Sunday’s race. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was found guilty of the same offence, and was also disqualified for finishing sixth.
