Kevin Sullivan, the wrestling icon who performed as Taskmaster, has died at the age of 74.

The athlete, who also did significant work behind the scenes in World Championship Wrestling, died on Friday. The cause of death was not immediately released; However, according to the GoFundMe campaign, Sullivan was involved in a “catastrophic accident” in Florida on May 12, and was diagnosed with sepsis and encephalitis even after undergoing emergency surgery.

Kevin’s first and only wife was Nancy Benoit (née Toffoloni), whom he met during a photoshoot for Sports Review Wrestling. At the time, Nancy was a young model appearing in several wrestling magazines and attending many matches to hand out flyers. A few months after meeting, Kevin asked Nancy to be his on-air valet, and she became known as the “Fallen Angel”.

The two married in 1985 and this was Nancy’s second marriage. The two became an iconic wrestling duo, being inseparable in public appearances, promotional tours, and even in the actual ring. She was the perfect complement to his cult-leader persona, starring as one of Kevin’s Satanist followers.

The man known as the Prince of Darkness and The Taskmaster has passed away. He was 74 years old.

He is particularly remembered for his bouts with Hulk Hogan and Dusty Rhodes and leading his Army of Darkness. His death was announced in a statement by WWE, which called him “a unique and influential figure in sports-entertainment history.”

The statement said: “Sullivan has found success both in the ring and behind the scenes because of his penchant for forward-looking ideas that push creative boundaries.”

The cause of his death has not been announced yet.

In May, Sullivan suffered what his daughter described as a “catastrophic accident” on her GoFundMe while signing autographs in Florida.

Nicole Sullivan wrote: “He had to undergo emergency surgery which saved his leg and life but suffered serious complications including sepsis and encephalitis.”
