One of five teams eliminated from playoff contention, the Bears got dealt another blow when coach Matt Nagy announced Nick Foles as the team’s Week 16 starter instead of rookie Justin Fields on Sunday against Seattle.

Fields, who is dealing with an ankle injury, may or may not see game action, Nagy said.

In his true freshman season at Georgia in 2018, Fields served as the backup to starting quarterback Jake Fromm. In Georgia’s season opener against Austin Peay, Fields made his debut in the second quarter and started the second half.

“When you’re playing in the game, you’ve got a bunch of adrenaline going on and stuff,” Fields said. “That’s when I first felt it, but I was still good enough to play through it. It got worse after the game and the next morning, but it felt better [Wednesday morning].”

At the time, he expected to be ready to play in this week’s matchup against Seattle and that he viewed himself as “day-to-day.” He won’t start, but whether he plays remains to be seen.
