Dunk Contest:
The NBA has a lot of exciting dunks happen over the course of a season. While regular-season dunks can certainly provide entertainment, dunks that happen during heated playoff games are the ones that are immortalized forever.
During the 2021 NBA playoffs, Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins dunked on Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, in a series that the Atlanta Hawks eventually won in 7 games.
Cocktail:
The NBA is full of athletic phenoms and spectacular dunkers, but one name that is amongst the best is John Collins. The Hawks big man is suitably nicknamed “The Baptist,” as he is known for often viciously dunking on players and putting them on posters.
One of Collins’ most memorable dunks is the one over Joel Embiid in last year’s playoffs. Aside from looking amazing, the dunk had some personal flavor added between the two. So it’s no surprise Collins picked this as his favorite one amongst all the other amazing dunks.
Cocktail Recipe:
A John Collins is a cocktail which was attested in 1869, but may be older. It is believed to have originated with a headwaiter of that name who worked at Limmer’s Old House in Conduit Street in Mayfair, which was a popular London hotel and coffee house around 1790–1817.
- 1 ½ ounces bourbon whiskey.
- 1 ounce fresh lemon juice.
- ½ ounce simple syrup.
- 2 ounces club soda.
- 1 orange slice or lemon slice, for garnish.
- 1 maraschino cherry, for garnish.
Drink:
The John Collins is similar to its more famous sibling, the Tom Collins cocktail, except it’s made with bourbon whiskey instead of gin. Any type of bourbon complements the lemon juice, simple syrup, and club soda well, so choose your favorite and enjoy this classic cocktail.
