Frankfurter-munching phenom Joey “Jaws” Chestnut made his way to a 15th victory in Nathan’s famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest on Monday, powering 63 hot dogs and buns at Extra’s annual exhibition.

In a decisive comeback, women’s record holder Mickey Sudow dropped 40 wieners and buns to skip last year’s Frank Fest to win the women’s title because she was pregnant.

Monday also marked the contest’s return to its traditional location outside Nathan’s flagship store in Brooklyn’s Coney Island neighborhood. The event was shifted to 2020 and last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s beautiful to be back here” in front of a crowd of spectators, Chestnut told ESPN after his feat, which the 38-year-old managed with a leg injury wearing a surgical boot.

Chestnut said, “It hurts, but I was in the zone for a while. I was ignoring it, but the pain eventually slowed its pace in the 10-minute contest.”

Last year, the Westfield, Indiana, resident topped his own record by eating 76 francs and buns.

Joey Chestnut ate 76 hot dogs at the 2021 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, breaking the previous record he set a year ago of 75.

Chestnut has eaten 70 or more hot dogs every 10 minutes over the past five years, and he wants to reach 77 for the first time on Monday.

2022 protester

Joey Chestnut overcame a crowded field and an injured right leg on his way to his 15th career win at Nathan’s famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest on Monday. He also took down an unexpected handicap mid-contest as a stage-crashing performer.

Shortly after taking down their 17th dog, demonstrators dressed in Star Wars costumes stormed the stage and held signs reading “Expose Smithfield’s Death Star,” a clear protest against pork maker Smithfield Foods. Chestnut was not interested in being carried away by his advances. Instead of taking the help of incident security, he handled the situation himself.

TODAY Show Joy offers up her secrets for skewering 68 hotdogs and buns. Joey’s girlfriend cooks him 70 hotdogs and he tries to eat as many as he can within 10 minutes. And he tries to eat a little more each day than his previous attempt. Three days before the big hot dog eating contest, Joey eats nothing to prepare himself for all the hot dogs he’ll be eating.

Let’s think for a second – starving your body for three days and then fueling it with more than 20,000 calories doesn’t sound healthy. But our registered dietitian Mary Hartley RD said, “Starving doesn’t matter here. The contestant is simply emptying their stomachs to make up more space before the competition. The day-to-day eating habits of competitive eating.” Nothing to do with style and everything to do with winning $10,000.” Starvation isn’t a big deal for competitive eaters because they’re training their bodies like any other professional sport .

The man ate 68 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes, which equates to about 20,194 calories of hot dogs, 1,319 grams of fat, 505 grams of saturated fat, and 725 milligrams of sodium. Congratulations Joey Chestnut, you consumed over 10 days of calories! But, you won $10,000 dollars. Thank you sir
