On Friday night, Reds outfielder Tommy Pham slapped Giants outfielder Jock Pedersen over a fantasy football argument, and it’s about to cost him. Pham told the media ahead of Saturday’s game that he and MLB had agreed to a three-game suspension as punishment.

Since Pham did not play in Friday’s game, that game would count as part of the punishment, so he needed to sit out the final two games versus San Francisco.

Pedersen explained that the fantasy football controversy revolves around whether he properly placed Jeff Wilson in injured reserve over the course of a week. As to why he did what he did, Pham said the amount of money on the line was too big to let him go.

“He was messing with my money,” Pham said via Evan Weibeck of the Mercury News. “I’m a big dog in Vegas. I’m a high roller in many casinos.”

However, Pham said there is more to this story. The Reds outfielder revealed that Pedersen said something “derogatory” about the Padres in a text, something that didn’t sit well with him.

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jock Pedersen said Cincinnati Reds outfielder Tommy Pham slapped him over his Fantasy Football League controversy ahead of the first match of Friday’s series.

While the Giants warmed up in the outfield, Pham faced Pedersen and hit him in the cheek before the pair parted.

“It was a surprise,” Pedersen told reporters. “There was no real argument. He kind of came over and said, ‘Like, I don’t know if you remember from last year.’ And I was like, ‘Fantasy football.’ He was like, ‘Yeah.'”

Major League Baseball is investigating, and Pham agreed to scrape the first pitch from Cincinnati’s lineup pending results of the investigation. He was also not in the lineup for Saturday’s game.

Pedersen said after the Reds’ 5–1 win that he was accused of cheating to keep a player on injured reserve and to replace him with a free agent in a fantasy football league. Pedersen said the player he had placed on the IR was kicked out for the week, making it a legal move. He said Pham had carried out essentially the same maneuver with his team.

Giants slugger Jock Pedersen detailed what led to his feud with Reds outfielder Tommy Pham on Friday, explaining that the brawl was actually the result of a fantasy football disagreement.

Speaking to reporters after the 5–1 loss to San Francisco, Pedersen revealed that he had no advance notice that Pham was going to contact him during the series in Cincinnati. As the Giants heated up in the outfield, Pham confronted Pedersen and slapped him in the cheek before the pair parted ways.

According to NBC Sports Bay Area, “It was a surprise,” said the Giants outfielder. “There was no real argument. He kind of came up and said, like, I don’t know if you remember from last year and I was like fantasy football. He was like, yeah.”

Pedersen said that Pham accused him of cheating in a fantasy football league that both MLB players were participating in by placing a player on injured reserve and replacing him with a fantasy football free agent. According to Pedersen, the player was placed on the IR, which made his move legal. Despite supposedly executing a similar swap within his fantasy football team, Pham did not agree.
