Bet

Jim Harbaugh: Bet| Banned| Injunction| Suspended

In today’s parlance, the word “bet” is used when you agree to something, but often in a sarcastic, defiant tone.

The junior quarterback was joined by offensive linemen Trevor Keegan, LaDarius Henderson, Carson Barnhart, Jack Zinter as well as defensive stars Chris Jenkins, Mike Senristil and Josh Wallace in posting the one-word message.

The post appears to be a message of defiance towards the Big Ten’s punishment, while implying that they are adopting a “Michigan vs. everyone else” mentality as the Wolverines make their title run.

Banned

The Big Ten Conference banned Jim Harbaugh from coaching Michigan’s three remaining regular season games on Friday, escalating an extraordinary confrontation with college football’s winningest program over a sign-stealing scheme that has rocked the sport.

Injunction

The restraining order could allow U-M to seek a preliminary injunction, a temporary measure that maintains the status quo – in this scenario, the investigation – until the court decides the merits of the case. Injunctions often ask courts to prevent the opposing party from taking specific actions—including suspending Harbaugh early—or continuing the current course of action.

Preliminary injunctions require a higher burden of proof to demonstrate that a party’s specific action will cause irreparable harm to the customer that cannot be resolved with monetary damages or a final settlement of the case.

Michigan is arguing that their case meets the second burden of proof, saying the suspension was premature and that the Big Ten should not have rushed to make a decision before the NCAA investigation was complete.

Michigan will have to wait until Monday to file an injunction motion with the court. But they may be allowed an ex parte hearing with the judge for a restraining order.

Suspended

The Big Ten suspended Jim Harbaugh from being on the sidelines for games until the end of the regular season as punishment for Michigan’s personal scouting and sign-stealing scandal, the conference announced Friday. Harbaugh will miss games against Penn State, Maryland and Ohio State.
