According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Detroit Pistons have agreed to trade forward Jeremy Grant to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick (through the Milwaukee Bucks and protected No.

Most notably, the Pistons and Blazers have swapped second-round picks in this year’s draft. The Pistons are now number 36 overall, while the Blazers are at number 46 overall. In addition, the Pistons will receive a 2025 second-round pick from the Blazers and a 2026 second-round pick (most favorable between the Blazers and the New Orleans Pelicans). Detroit will also receive a trade exception of $21 million as part of the deal.

Grant is entering the final year of his contract and was not a long-term piece to rebuild the Pistons who will now move on with Cade Cunningham and $43 million in cap space for free agency. Moving grants always made sense, but it’s surprising that the pistons weren’t able to command greater returns. Perhaps they could be a desperate contender if they traded Grant on last season’s deadline.

However, it’s worth noting that Grant is eligible for an extension this offseason and will seek a $112 million deal over four years. In addition, he wants to be a featured offensive player. Chances are some teams were willing to pay Grant and give him the role he wanted, which could result in less business value. The Blazers were clearly one of them, and have now added a versatile forward to the mix as they attempt to re-tool around Damien Lillard.

At Syracuse, Grant averaged 12.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 31.4 minutes per game in 2013–14, while shooting 49.6% from the floor; He also scored in double digits in 24 of the 32 games he played and posted 19 points three times. He was also a 2014 All-ACC Honorable Mention Selection.

In April 2014, Grant announced for the draft of the NBA, leaving his final two years of college eligibility. He starts out as a guard but can play as a small forward for his defensive prowess.

The Pistons said on Monday evening that leading scorer Jeremy Grant would miss the final seven games of the season due to a left calf strain. He was injured in the first quarter of Friday’s game with the Wizards and did not play against the Knicks on Sunday.

Now, it remains to be seen whether Grant, the 6-foot-8 forward who averaged 19.2 points and played five games with more than 30 points, has played his last game for Detroit.

Grant, the subject of heavy trade rumors before the February 10 deadline, would be in the final year of a three-year, $60 million contract next season.

He will bring in less than next year’s trade deadline, and Pistons general manager Troy Weaver will weigh that factor should he decide it doesn’t make the most sense to retain Grant beyond 2022-23.

Marvin Bagley III, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, has impressed Detroit coach Dwayne Casey and everyone in the organization since his acquisition nearly seven weeks ago. Bagley made 25 in place of Grant Friday and 27 early on Sunday.
