Halliday spent most of the spring in opposition in the second leg. During a natural stoppage, Holiday’s first run to the majors was blocked by reigning American League Rookie of the Year Gunnar Henderson.

High School

Holliday attended Stillwater High School in Stillwater, Oklahoma. After his freshman year, he committed to play college baseball at Oklahoma State University. As a junior in 2021, Holliday hit six home runs. He batted .500 with runs batted in and 50 runs batted in (RBI). He was also named the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year. That summer, he pitched a perfect game at Petco Park. The game played at various national events, including the All-American Classic. He was also named to USA Baseball’s under-18 team.

Holiday entered his senior year in 2022 as a top prospect for the upcoming draft. During a game against Union High School, he hit three home runs. In another game, he hit two home runs in the same inning. He finished the season batting .685 with 17 home runs, 79 RBI, 29 doubles and 30 stolen bases in forty games.

Dad

However, it takes a lot to stand in Matt Holliday’s shadow. Matt was a seven-time All-Star with a World Series ring, a batting title and four Silver Sluggers in 15 major league seasons. Matt learned the game from his father, and passed that love — and, clearly, some genetics — on to his sons.
