After spending a year away from the NFL, former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow is making his return — this time with the Carolina Panthers. NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero first reported the news on Sunday, and the Panthers later officially announced the signing.
Hunter Renfrow’s NFL Journey
Renfrow, 29, entered the league as a fifth-round pick out of Clemson in the 2019 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as a reliable and crafty slot receiver, recording strong production early in his career. In 2021, Renfrow reached his peak with a Pro Bowl selection after a breakout season.
However, his role diminished under head coach Josh McDaniels, leading to limited snaps over the next two seasons. Following the 2023 campaign, the Raiders released Renfrow. During his time in Las Vegas, Renfrow posted impressive numbers — 269 receptions for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns across 73 games.
Panthers Strengthen WR Group for Bryce Young
The Panthers are adding Renfrow to help bolster their receiving corps as quarterback Bryce Young enters his pivotal third NFL season. Carolina focused heavily on supporting Young in the 2025 NFL Draft, selecting Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan with the No. 8 overall pick.
Renfrow joins a veteran WR room led by Adam Thielen, alongside promising talents like Xavier Legette and David Moore. His experience, route-running precision, and ability to find soft spots in coverage could prove invaluable for Young’s development and the Panthers’ passing attack.
With Renfrow’s arrival, Carolina’s offense aims to take a major step forward in 2025, blending young playmakers with proven veterans to create a balanced and dynamic group.
